Au­thor­i­ties to gain ac­cess to bank ac­counts

The Fi­nance Min­istry is to sub­mit a bill to Par­lia­ment on Mon­day that would al­low it to ob­tain tax­pay­ers’ bank de­tails at 24 hours’ no­tice as part of in­ves­ti­ga­tions into tax eva­sion. The draft law is be­ing put for­ward due to con­cerns about delays from banks in re­spond­ing to re­quests for cus­tomers’ de­tails. The Fi­nan­cial Crimes Squad (SDOE) has asked for in­for­ma­tion on 5,000 bank clients but has so far only re­ceived data con­cern­ing half of them. The bill would lead to the cre­ation of a cen­tral bank reg­istry from where SDOE and other bod­ies could quickly draw in­for­ma­tion.
