New cabi­net and en­ergy prospects boost bourse

The broad cabi­net reshuf­fle, fa­vor­able re­ports about the Greek en­ergy land­scape and the rises posted by most Euro­pean mar­kets buoyed the coun­try’s main bourse in­dex higher yes­ter­day af­ter the long week­end.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 840.71 points, adding 1.29 per­cent to Fri­day’s 830.01 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 in­dex ex­panded by 1.04 per­cent to 282.38 points.

In­dus­trial blue chips led the way, with Vio­halco adding 11.04 per­cent and Corinth Pipeworks in­creas­ing by 10.95 per­cent. Pi­raeus Bank added 5.60 per­cent on the last day of its share cap­i­tal in­crease. In con­trast, National Bank fell 5.85 per­cent and Alpha Bank gave up 1.28 per­cent.

In to­tal, 73 stocks posted gains, 52 recorded losses and 24 were un­changed.

Turnover amounted to 51.1 mil­lion eu­ros, down from last Fri­day’s 69.5 mil­lion.
