Stock in­dex fails to lock in early gains

The early gains quickly evap­o­rated for most stocks on the Greek bourse yes­ter­day, with the ses­sion end­ing with a drop of al­most 1 per­cent for the bench­mark in­dex.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 1,271.31 points, shed­ding 0.97 per­cent from Wed­nes­day’s 1,283.70 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 con­tracted by 1 per­cent to 417.76 points.

Banks, con­struc­tion firms and en­ergy blue chips headed south, with Al­pha fall­ing 3.30 per­cent and Na­tional de­clin­ing by 1.20, while Terna En­ergy shrank by 3.11 per­cent, GEK Terna gave up 3.10 per­cent, and El­lak­tor slumped 3.09 per­cent. EYDAP added 2.68 per­cent and Hel­lenic Ex­changes rose 1.84 per­cent.

In to­tal 55 stocks posted gains, 85 saw losses and 19 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 102.2 mil­lion eu­ros, down from Wed­nes­day’s 113.4 mil­lion.
