Blue chips head south as small-caps inch up at end of week

The Greek bourse pre­sented a mixed pic­ture at the end of the week’s last ses­sion yes­ter­day, with the bench­mark slip­ping slightly on a blue chip de­cline while ris­ing stocks out­num­bered losers thanks to the gains posted by most small-caps.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 1,268.53 points, shed­ding 0.22 per­cent from Wed­nes­day’s 1,271.31 points. On a weekly ba­sis it fell 2.15 per­cent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 con­tracted by 0.47 per­cent to 415.81 points, but small-caps en­joyed a 0.55 per­cent in­crease.

Marfin In­vest­ment Group was the day’s cham­pion with a 10.79 per­cent rise, while OPAP gave up 4.17 per­cent.

In to­tal 81 stocks posted gains, 67 took losses and 21 stayed un­changed. Turnover amounted to 92.5 mil­lion eu­ros, down from Thurs­day’s 102.2 mil­lion.
