One of the key suspects in the probe into bribes that were allegedly paid to Greek officials to secure arms deals is due to face magistrates Gavriil Mallis and Yiannis Stavropoulos in Athens this week,

Michalis Matantos, a representative of the German firm Ferrostaal, is expected to answer questions tomorrow after evidence was found suggesting that some 70 million euros had been moved through accounts he owned. If this proves correct, this would represent the biggest bribe that has ever been paid to public officials in Greece.

Matantos owned a company, IME, that also worked with another German firm, Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW).
