by Thes­sa­loniki hote­liers and GBR Con­sult­ing showed yes­ter­day that 93 per­cent of peo­ple who visit Greece’s sec­ond-largest city for leisure pur­poses and 91 per­cent of those there for pro­fes­sional rea­sons would rec­om­mend it as a hol­i­day desti­na­tion to friends and fam­ily, il­lus­trat­ing the high level of sat­is­fac­tion Thes­sa­loniki gen­er­ates. Re­cre­ational trav­el­ers spent an av­er­age of 70.58 eu­ros per day in the city last year, of which 22.60 eu­ros went to­ward pur­chases, 19.50 eu­ros to restau­rants and cafe­te­rias and 9.20 eu­ros to sites and en­ter­tain­ment. The av­er­age room rental rates went down 5 per­cent year-on-year, mak­ing it the cheap­est among 26 Euro­pean cities, said the head of the Thes­sa­loniki Hote­liers As­so­ci­a­tion, Aris­totelis Tho­mopou­los, adding that the av­er­age oc­cu­pancy rate dropped by 4.3 per­cent in the first 10 months of 2013. The sur­vey also found that half of the tourists in Thes­sa­loniki had made their book­ing online.
