Trikala Prison fugi­tive caught

Al­ba­nian po­lice on Satur­day ar­rested Ilir Kupa, one of 11 Al­ba­nian con­victs who es­caped from Trikala Prison in north­west­ern Greece in March last year. The 27-year-old had been named by Greek au­thor­i­ties as be­ing one of four men in­volved in the death of a fe­male mo­torist and a po­lice of­fi­cer in shootouts fol­low­ing the es­cape. Po­lice have also iden­ti­fied Kupa as one of the men who shot at po­lice of­fi­cers af­ter be­ing pulled over for ques­tion­ing in Man­dra, north­west of Athens, last April.

A Euro­pean war­rant had been is­sued for the 27-year-old’s ar­rest af­ter Greek po­lice no­ti­fied Al­ba­nian au­thor­i­ties that Kupa might have suc­ceeded in cross­ing the bor­der. An extradition or­der for his re­turn to Greece was is­sued on Satur­day.
