All gains of 2014 are lost as slide goes on in bourse

Any gains reg­is­tered in the bench­mark of the Greek bourse since the start of the year evap­o­rated by the end of yes­ter­day’s ses­sion, as stocks con­tin­ued their slide, along with most for­eign mar­kets.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 1,159.43 points, shed­ding 2.07 per­cent from Fri­day’s 1,183.99 points. The large­cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 con­tracted by 2.38 per­cent to 380.80 points.

Na­tional Bank de­clined by 6.27 per­cent, get­ting knocked out of the cat­e­gory of the stock with the big­gest cap­i­tal­iza­tion, at 8.24 bil­lion eu­ros. It was over­taken by Pi­raeus, which lost 2.35 per­cent and closed with a cap­i­tal­iza­tion of 8.42 bil­lion eu­ros. The day’s other big losers among blue chips were Fri­go­glass (down 4.88 per­cent) and EYDAP (4.72 per­cent). Terna En­ergy grew 1.20 per­cent.

In to­tal 31 stocks went up, 104 dropped and 22 stayed put. Turnover amounted to just 68 mil­lion eu­ros, down from Fri­day’s 82.3 mil­lion.
