Society wants reforms

Unlike what some critics like to think, people do know what they want, regardless of what their politicians wish or how they behave. The public has demanded that universities remain open and operate without pockets of lawlessness and violence, and this is what it will get – albeit not without some setbacks. Similarly, people thought that allowing stores to open on Sundays, or at least on some Sundays, was a welcome development and they have shown that to be so. People want to break with the country’s dysfunctional past and they choose to throw their weight behind the necessary changes and reforms when the politicians dare to introduce them. All of this should serve as a reminder to Greece’s conservativeled coalition, which has trouble seeing through the reform agenda it has made a committment to.
