Sig­nif­i­cant stock gains on thin trad­ing

The Greek bourse bucked the trend set by most other Euro­pean stock mar­kets yes­ter­day, en­joy­ing healthy gains, al­beit on thin turnover. With the third-quar­ter re­sults edg­ing closer for most listed com­pa­nies, ob­servers con­sider en­cour­ag­ing the fact that the bench­mark closed the ses­sion on the day’s high. The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex ended yes­ter­day at 939.25 points, adding 2.56 per­cent to Fri­day’s 915.83 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 in­dex ex­panded 2.62 per­cent to 307.11 points. GEK Terna led large-caps with 8.82 per­cent growth, with Terna En­ergy adding 8.73 per­cent. Eurobank was the only blue chip to drop, los­ing 1.81 per­cent. In to­tal 79 stocks posted gains, 32 sus­tained losses and 16 re­mained un­changed. Turnover amounted to 64.5 mil­lion euros, down from last Fri­day’s 124.1 mil­lion.

Hel­lenic Sea­planes an­nounced yes­ter­day the ex­pan­sion of its net­work of wa­ter air­ports to Crete, adding Sitia to a map of 11 strips it has un­der­taken to invest in with­out any cost to the lo­cal port or mu­nic­i­pal­ity.
