Call on hos­pi­tals to brace for Ebola

The Health Min­istry’s gen­eral sec­re­tary Christina Pa­paniko­laou yes­ter­day called on the direc­tors of the coun­try’s state hos­pi­tals to brief au­thor­i­ties re­gard­ing their level of readi­ness to deal with a po­ten­tial Ebola in­fec­tion.

Hos­pi­tals have been asked to in­form the min­istry by the end of this week whether their staff have been trained to deal with any­one dis­play­ing symp­toms of Ebola and whether steps have been taken to en­sure a rapid re­sponse and timely iso­la­tion if a sus­pi­cious case should arise.

In a let­ter sent to Health Min­is­ter Makis Voridis yes­ter­day, the union rep­re­sent­ing hos­pi­tal doc­tors in Athens and Pi­raeus asked for ad­di­tional staff and equip­ment to en­sure hos­pi­tals are fully pre­pared.
