SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras may seek a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu next month, his party suggested yesterday. Davutoglu is expected to be in Athens on December 5 and 6 to take part in the Greek-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council and SYRIZA spokesman Panos Skourletis said that Tsipras is “open” to the idea of meeting with the neighboring country’s leader. One figure that Tsipras will not be meeting soon, however, is European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The opposition leader had been planning to hold talks with Juncker but has put these on hold, Skourletis said, in the wake of reports about tax avoidance deals struck between Luxembourg authorities and foreign firms while Juncker was leading the country. Skourletis suggested that SYRIZA, whose MEPs have called for Juncker to resign after the revelations, would seek a meeting at a later date.
