Return on cards for Papandreou?
PASOK officials yesterday downplayed comments by former Prime Minister George Papandreou which suggested he might soon seek a return to frontline politics.
Papandreou has maintained a relatively low profile as a backbench PASOK MP since standing down from office in November 2011, but in a speech late on Wednesday he argued that his government was brought to a premature end. “I wish we had more time,” he said. “But life is full of twists and turns.”
“We want there to be togetherness and calm in our party,” said PASOK spokesman Dimitris Karydis, who argued that many of Papandreou’s observations about his time in power are in line with the views of current party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
