Police link to bar shot by gunman
At least three serving policemen are thought to have been working at the bar in Mikrolimano, Piraeus, where a 31-year-old man opened fire with an AK-47 early on Saturday, resulting in 15 people being injured.
Sources said that two former policemen who have been linked in the past to prostitution rings are thought to be involved in some way in the ownership of the establishment. This has not been confirmed, though, by the police. It is expected that the police’s internal affairs department will investigate the matter further, particularly the suspicions that policemen were working at the bar.
The force’s priority, however, is to catch the Albanian national suspected of carrying out the shooting.
It emerged yesterday that he had been staying since Thursday night in a hotel opposite the bar. Police searched the room he had rented and found an AK-47 magazine.
