Wed­nes­day’s stock gains wiped out

All of Wed­nes­day’s stock gains evap­o­rated dur­ing yes­ter­day’s trad­ing ses­sion in Athens as un­cer­tainty re­gard­ing the coun­try’s po­lit­i­cal and fis­cal fu­ture over­shad­owed the pos­i­tive cor­po­rate re­sults an­nounced in the last few days.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 950.95 points, shed­ding 2.63 per­cent from Wed­nes­day’s 976.65 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 in­dex con­tracted 2.45 per­cent to 309.55 points.

All blue chips with­out ex­cep­tion headed south, led by El­lak­tor, which fell 7.03 per­cent. Marfin In­vest­ment Group de­clined 5.53 per­cent, Eurobank dropped 5.32 per­cent, Hel­lenic Ex­changes lost 5.08 per­cent and Myti­li­neos gave up 4.92 per­cent.

In to­tal 31 stocks recorded gains, 81 regis­tered losses and 21 ended up un­changed.

Turnover amounted to 84.9 mil­lion euros, slightly up on Wed­nes­day’s 84.5 mil­lion.
