Captain freed after questioning
The 42-year-old Swiss speedboat captain questioned in connection with the death on the weekend of a Russian woman swimming off Afandou beach on Rhodes, in the southeastern Aegean, was released from custody yesterday pending further investigation. The 37-year-old Russian’s body was found by coast guard officers on Sunday morning after she was reported missing the previous evening. According to investigators, she had been swimming in the sea when she was hit by the speedboat, which was towing a water-skier. There were another five people on board the craft, who allegedly told investigators they noticed the impact, which occurred at sunset.
