Cap­tain freed af­ter ques­tion­ing

The 42-year-old Swiss speed­boat cap­tain ques­tioned in con­nec­tion with the death on the week­end of a Rus­sian woman swimming off Afan­dou beach on Rhodes, in the south­east­ern Aegean, was re­leased from cus­tody yesterday pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion. The 37-year-old Rus­sian’s body was found by coast guard of­fi­cers on Sun­day morn­ing af­ter she was re­ported miss­ing the pre­vi­ous evening. Ac­cord­ing to in­ves­ti­ga­tors, she had been swimming in the sea when she was hit by the speed­boat, which was tow­ing a wa­ter-skier. There were another five peo­ple on board the craft, who al­legedly told in­ves­ti­ga­tors they no­ticed the im­pact, which oc­curred at sunset.
