MPs yesterday voted to lift Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris’s immunity from prosecution so that he can be tried in connection with an assault on a cameraman outside the main Athens court complex in October 2013. Kasidiaris was captured on video pushing and kicking the cameraman as he and two other neofascist party MPs were granted conditional release. Kasidiaris, who is on trial with the rest of GD legislators for running a criminal organization, also faces a string of other charges, mostly involving physical assault. Parliament’s reduced summer session also voted yesterday to lift the immunity of New Democracy lawmaker Vassilis Giogiakas so he can face trial relating to a photovoltaics installation on a plot of land during his tenure as governor of Thesprotia, northwestern Greece.
