Members of Greek Peace Committee (EEDYE) gathered beneath the Acropolis yesterday to mark the 70th anniversary of the world’s first atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima in Japan. The Hiroshima bombing, which killed 140,000 by the end of 1945, was followed by the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, which killed about 40,000 instantly. The Second World War ended on August 15, 1945. EEDYE called for a ban on all nuclear weapons, saying that their threat ‘continues to hover over the world.’
