Bourse rises for sec­ond day

The Greek bench­mark­ended higher for a sec­ond day yesterday de­spite the fresh losses sus­tained by the banks in­dex, as ris­ing stocks out­num­bered those that headed south by al­most two to one.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 676.33 points, adding 1.45 per­cent to Thurs­day’s 666.68 points. On a weekly ba­sis it slumped 15.20 per­cent.

The large-cap FTSE 25 in­dex ex­panded 1.88 per­cent yesterday to end at 201.69 points, but mid-caps de­clined 0.27 per­cent.

The banks in­dex gave up 1.67 per­cent dur­ing yesterday’s ses­sion to bring its to­tal losses in the week the stock mar­ket re­opened to 58.1 per­cent. Eurobank dropped 8.20 per­cent and Al­pha fell 2.40 per­cent, while Na­tional added 1.21 per­cent and Pi­raeus climbed 0.70 per­cent. GEK Terna and Coca-Cola HBC out­per­formed, soar­ing 8.90 per­cent and 7.03 per­cent re­spec­tively.

In to­tal 57 stocks recorded gains, 29 sus­tained losses and 13 re­mained un­changed.

Turnover amounted to 59 mil­lion eu­ros, down from Thurs­day’s 73.4 mil­lion.
