Bourse rises for second day

The Greek benchmarke­nded higher for a second day yesterday despite the fresh losses sustained by the banks index, as rising stocks outnumbere­d those that headed south by almost two to one.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 676.33 points, adding 1.45 percent to Thursday’s 666.68 points. On a weekly basis it slumped 15.20 percent.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.88 percent yesterday to end at 201.69 points, but mid-caps declined 0.27 percent.

The banks index gave up 1.67 percent during yesterday’s session to bring its total losses in the week the stock market reopened to 58.1 percent. Eurobank dropped 8.20 percent and Alpha fell 2.40 percent, while National added 1.21 percent and Piraeus climbed 0.70 percent. GEK Terna and Coca-Cola HBC outperform­ed, soaring 8.90 percent and 7.03 percent respective­ly.

In total 57 stocks recorded gains, 29 sustained losses and 13 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 59 million euros, down from Thursday’s 73.4 million.
