Five de­tained for Hy­dra mur­der, four more sought

Five Ge­or­gian na­tion­als who have been im­pli­cated in the mur­der of a 67-year-old res­tau­rant owner on Hy­dra were be­ing ques­tioned is Athens yesterday as of­fi­cers searched for another four Ge­or­gians, two cou­ples who are be­lieved to be linked to the crime.

Two of the sus­pects fled the is­land in a sea taxi early on Sun­day af­ter the killing, giv­ing the driver 500 eu­ros to take them to Vark­iza where, they claimed, their child had been taken ill. The five sus­pects be­ing held sought to es­cape in a sim­i­lar way but were stopped by po­lice. It is thought that the cou­ple that es­caped by sea taxi have with them the jewels and cash the per­pe­tra­tors took from the home of Mano­lis Economou.
