Po­lice yesterday de­tained two men, aged 39 and 50, in con­nec­tion with a large blaze that broke out near the town of Xy­lokas­tro, west of Athens, on Tues­day and was still smol­der­ing yesterday evening af­ter fire­fight­ers man­aged to bring it un­der con­trol. Ac­cord­ing to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the two men are em­ploy­ees of the Xy­lokas­tro mu­nic­i­pal­ity. They were to face a pros­e­cu­tor in Corinth on charges of ar­son through neg­li­gence. Nearly 100 fire­fight­ers were dis­patched to tackle the large blaze, which prompted the evac­u­a­tion of dozens of chil­dren from a nearby sum­mer camp on Tues­day.
