Po­lice name 7 Ge­or­gians held for bru­tal Hy­dra killing

On the or­ders of a Pi­raeus pros­e­cu­tor, the Greek Po­lice yesterday made public the iden­ti­ties of seven Ge­or­gian na­tion­als who have been charged in con­nec­tion with the bru­tal killing of a 67-year-old res­tau­rant owner on the is­land of Hy­dra last week­end. The sus­pects, aged be­tween 27 and 42, were be­ing de­tained at Athens Po­lice Head­quar­ters un­der en­hanced se­cu­rity. They face charges of man­slaugh­ter and rob­bery. Ac­cord­ing to sources, all the sus­pects de­nied any in­volve­ment in the bru­tal as­sault though author­i­ties are said to have phys­i­cal ev­i­dence link­ing them to the killing. The sus­pects are al­leged to have bro­ken into the res­tau­rant owner’s home early on Sun­day, tied him up and tor­tured him be­fore flee­ing with jew­elry and cash. A coro­ner found that the vic­tim was suf­fo­cated and died of a heart at­tack. His body was cov­ered with bruises.
