Rehires in civil service continue
The rehiring of 56 civil servants sacked or placed in a labor reserve last year was confirmed last week by the government.
The Labor Ministry published the decision to rehire the sacked workers and is expected to follow suit this week as there have been similar decisions for 431 staff.
Already this year, the government has taken on some 600 sacked Finance Ministry cleaners, more than 1,500 employees at public broadcaster ERT, 1,817 teaches, 1,174 university administrative staff, about 1,300 school guards and nearly 1,500 municipal police. The rehires are expected to reach a total of 7,000, which will be subtracted from the 11,000 hirings for this year that had been agreed with lenders by the previous government.
