Mediter­ranean cul­ture takes cen­ter stage in a new in­ter­na­tional fes­ti­val, “Mediter­ranean Traces,” in the city of Ha­nia on Crete through Septem­ber 9, with a fo­cus on mu­sic, dance and film events as well pre­sen­ta­tions on the re­gion’s di­etary habits. On Thurs­day, Au­gust 27, Ital­ian group Nuova Com­pag­nia di Canto Popo­lare, com­pris­ing Fausta Vetere on vo­cals, Cor­rado Sfogli on guitar, man­dola and bouzouki, Gianni La­m­agna on vo­cals and guitar, Carmine Bruno on per­cus­sion, Marino Sor­rentino on ac­cor­dion, trum­pet and flute, Michele Sig­nore on vi­o­lin and man­dolon­cello and Pasquale Zic­cardi on vo­cals and bass, in works rang­ing from 16th cen­tury vil­lanel­las up to more con­tem­po­rary num­bers in an evening ti­tled “Mare Nostrum” at the Ana­to­liki Tafros Open Theater, start­ing at 9 p.m. Tick­ets cost 12 eu­ros and can be pur­chased at the Mu­nic­i­pal Mar­ket Square kiosk.
