The National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades is a nature reserve for marine life in the Mediterranean Sea. The park is especially known for its protection of one of the most endangered mammals in the world – the Mediterranean monk seal. Visitors can swim, dive or walk around the accessible areas to observe the wildlife, though fishing and hunting are only allowed in certain areas. In addition to the wildlife, visitors can also see archaeological finds in the area, such as shipwrecks and old monasteries. The Marine Park is located around the Sporadic islands of Alonissos, Peristera, Kira-Panaghia, Gioura, Psathoura, Piperi and Skantzoura, though the management of the park is registered in Alonissos. More information can be found at the park’s website, alonis, and at MOm’s website,
