Kouzi­los, Patelis re­leased

Golden Dawn deputy Nikos Kouzi­los has been re­leased from cus­tody where he had been await­ing trial on a num­ber of crim­i­nal charges along with dozens of other MPs and mem­bers of the ne­o­fas­cist party. How­ever, the coun­cil of ap­peals court judges banned Kouzi­los from leav­ing the At­tica re­gion, while or­der­ing him to re­port to his lo­cal po­lice sta­tion twice a month. The Golden Dawn MP was also banned from at­tend­ing any party events, although he will be al­lowed to carry out his par­lia­men­tary du­ties. In a sep­a­rate rul­ing, judges or­dered the re­lease of Gior­gos Patelis, the head of Golden Dawn’s cell in Nikaia, south­ern Athens. Patelis, who was be­ing held on charges of be­ing a mem­ber of a crim­i­nal gang is also fac­ing a sep­a­rate charge of be­ing an ac­com­plice to the mur­der of rap­per Pav­los Fys­sas in Septem­ber 2003. Patelis too was banned from leav­ing the coun­try and must re­port to his lo­cal po­lice sta­tion twice a month. The GD trial, tak­ing place at the max­i­mum-se­cu­rity Ko­ry­dal­los Prison, will re­sume on Septem­ber 9.
