The Cit­i­zens’ Pro­tec­tion Min­istry yesterday re­futed ac­cu­sa­tions by De­fense Min­is­ter and In­de­pen­dent Greeks chief Panos Kam­menos that a mem­ber of the Na­tional In­tel­li­gence Ser­vice (EYP) had been be­hind a re­cent as­sault on the na­tion­al­ist party leader. Kam­menos was bom­barded with eggs and heck­led by a crowd dur­ing a visit to the eastern Aegean is­land of Kos last week­end, in an in­ci­dent that he claims was in­sti­gated by a spe­cific po­lice of­fi­cer who served with EYP. The min­istry yesterday is­sued a state­ment say­ing that no such of­fi­cer has served at EYP be­tween 2009 and the present day, with the In­de­pen­dent Greeks party coun­ter­ing that it had ev­i­dence he was in ser­vice from 2006 to 2008.
