For­mer SYRIZA law­mak­ers Costas La­pavit­sas and Alexan­dra Tsanaka were at­tacked by a young man throw­ing eggs at them in Kavala, north­ern Greece, late Fri­day. The deputies, who re­cently joined the ranks of the newly es­tab­lished break­away Pop­u­lar Unity party led by for­mer Energy Min­is­ter Panayi­o­tis Lafaza­nis, were be­ing in­ter­viewed by lo­cal media at the time of the in­ci­dent. In­de­pen­dent Greeks leader and for­mer de­fense min­is­ter Panos Kam­menos also came un­der at­tack ear­lier this month when de­mon­stra­tors threw eggs and hurled abuse at him on the eastern Aegean is­land of Kos. The protesters were al­legedly ob­ject­ing to the pre­vi­ous ad­min­is­tra­tion’s han­dling of the refugee and mi­grant cri­sis.
