Ex-Olympic Games sites provide shelter for migrants
Hundreds of migrants have been housed at former Athens 2004 Olympics facilities in the southern suburb of Elliniko as local authorities and the government scramble to find places where Syrians, Afghans and others who have fled to Greece can stay safely. Yesterday, there was an operation to clear Victoria Square, near the city center, where hundreds of migrants had been camped for the last few weeks. Buses transferred the migrants to another former Olympic site, the Galatsi indoor arena. A total of around 1,300 people were moved, allowing City of Athens sanitation teams to move in and clean the square.
