Most general government entities missed their budget targets again in the second quarter of the year, according to data released by the Finance Ministry. Furthermore, almost four in every five entities were off target by more than 10 percent.

In total, the 55 general government entities (with an annual budget of at least 10 million euros) missed the budget target by a total of 397 million euros in the January-June period, after being off 110 million in the first quarter. This means that the problem expanded by 260 percent in the second quarter.

Forty-two entities missed their targets by more than 10 percent, led by the Generational Solidarity Insurance Fund (AKAGE), which recorded a hole of 142 million euros, followed by the Green Fund, with a 93.8-million-euro gap. Concerning the Green Fund in particular, the ministry attributed the problem to reduced takings from the illegal building settlement tranches.

The best result was registered by the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO), amounting to an 8.6-millioneuro surplus over the target.
