The Euro­pean Union Sol­i­dar­ity Fund yesterday al­lo­cated 9.9 mil­lion eu­ros to Greece to deal with the fall­out from nat­u­ral dis­as­ters. Brus­sels awarded the funds to Greece, as well as 6.3 mil­lion eu­ros to Bulgaria, to cover the cost of re­cov­ery oper­a­tions in both coun­tries fol­low­ing re­cent flood­ing. “The EU Sol­i­dar­ity Fund is one of our strong­est sym­bols of sol­i­dar­ity in times of need,” said Com­mis­sioner for Re­gional Pol­icy Co­rina Cretu. “To­day we are bring­ing fi­nan­cial sup­port to the re­gions of Greece and Bulgaria af­fected by the dis­as­ters of this win­ter, which caused con­sid­er­able dam­age. Now we can start re­build­ing, to­gether.”
