Passenger seeks injunction
A Piraeus court yesterday started hearing the appeal by a 70-year-old passenger for an injunction against two shipping companies, Superfast Ferries and ANEK Lines, in connection to the Norman Atlantic ferry which caught fire while traveling between Greece and Italy at the end of last year. Eleven people died on board the ferry while another 18 remain unaccounted for. The 70-year-old truck driver, who had been a passenger on the ferry, claims to have suffered irreparable damage to his leg and spine following the fire, which started on the car deck on the morning of December 28. In a bid to escape the flames, he jumped from the ship’s deck into the sea, a fall of some 15 meters.
