Unemployed teachers harangued Education Minister Nikos Filis (r) yesterday as he met with representatives of primary and secondary school teachers in Athens. Filis, who was only appointed to the position last month, argued that he was not responsible for a shortage of some 25,000 teachers at Greek state schools, which is one of the main reasons that some 270 schools failed to open for the new academic year. Meanwhile, the government could also run into difficulties with technical colleges (TEIs) as they are refusing to adjust their budgets after being told their state funding for 2016 will be cut by 16 percent.
