Donations from bakers in Thessaloniki produced more than half a ton of bread, cheese pies and other goods which were dispatched to the area of Idomeni, near Greece’s border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, a busy crossing for migrants and refugees seeking to travel to Western and Northern Europe. The goods were sent by truck to Red Cross volunteers in Idomeni who have been helping the refugees over the past few weeks. The head of the association of Thessaloniki bakers, Elsa Koukoumiera, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that the goal of gathering 500 kilograms of bread had been exceeded.
