Credit sector stocks soar
The prospect of lower capital requirements for banks and the upward trend recorded on other European markets resulted in significant gains for bank chips and the majority of other stocks on the Greek bourse yesterday.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 694.48 points, adding 2.71 percent to Wednesday’s 676.13 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 3.30 percent to end at 207.50 points.
Banks increased 13.91 percent, with Alpha rising 27.36 percent, followed by Eurobank (25 percent) and Piraeus (22.86 percent). Lamda Development fell 1.96 percent and EYDAP lost 1.40 percent.
In total 62 stocks grew, 20 dropped and 15 stayed put. Turnover amounted to 47.9 million euros, more than twice Wednesday’s 23.3 million.
