Minister presents vision for changes to Kathimerini
In an interview with Sunday’s Kathimerini, Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis, heralded the creation of a series of changes to the current tax system, noting that property taxes will be fairer as of next year, corresponding to the sum of taxpayers’ properties, with the tax-free threshold to be set at 50,000 euros of a property’s commercial value. The minister said he favored the introduction of a single set of tax brackets for income, salaries and rent, with the tax-free threshold on income to remain at 9,500 euros. Alexiadis added that the ministry would introduce incentives for the use of credit cards as part of a broader drive to crack down on tax evasion. Finally he mooted the idea of introducing lessons on being a responsible taxpayer to Greek schools.
