Min­is­ter presents vi­sion for changes to Kathimerini

In an in­ter­view with Sun­day’s Kathimerini, Al­ter­nate Fi­nance Min­is­ter Try­fon Alexiadis, her­alded the cre­ation of a se­ries of changes to the cur­rent tax sys­tem, not­ing that prop­erty taxes will be fairer as of next year, cor­re­spond­ing to the sum of tax­pay­ers’ prop­er­ties, with the tax-free thresh­old to be set at 50,000 eu­ros of a prop­erty’s com­mer­cial value. The min­is­ter said he fa­vored the in­tro­duc­tion of a sin­gle set of tax brack­ets for in­come, salaries and rent, with the tax-free thresh­old on in­come to re­main at 9,500 eu­ros. Alexiadis added that the min­istry would in­tro­duce in­cen­tives for the use of credit cards as part of a broader drive to crack down on tax eva­sion. Fi­nally he mooted the idea of in­tro­duc­ing lessons on be­ing a re­spon­si­ble tax­payer to Greek schools.
