Death toll in sea cross­ings to Greece in 2015 reaches 123

A wooden boat by mi­grants and refugees to reach Lesvos lies aban­doned yes­ter­day on one of the east­ern Aegean is­land’s beaches. Ac­cord­ing to the United Na­tions Refugee Agency (UNHCR), 19 peo­ple, in­clud­ing in­fants and chil­dren, have died try­ing to reach Greece by sea in the past nine days in five sep­a­rate in­ci­dents. At least 123 peo­ple have died or gone miss­ing in Greek ter­ri­to­rial wa­ters so far this year, while in all, at least 3,135 have per­ished in the Mediter­ranean to date in 2015, said the UNHCR, which ex­pressed con­cern about the death toll ris­ing.
