Tight se­cu­rity in cen­tral Athens for leader’s visit

Athe­ni­ans should ex­pect road clo­sures and tight se­cu­rity in cen­tral Athens from this af­ter­noon un­til to­mor­row af­ter­noon due to French Pres­i­dent Fran­cois Hol­lande’s visit. Some 2,500 po­lice of­fi­cers will be on duty in the cap­i­tal while the French leader meets with Greek of­fi­cials, in­clud­ing Pres­i­dent Prokopis Pavlopou­los and Prime Min­is­ter Alexis Tsipras. Hol­lande, who will be stay­ing in the city cen­ter tonight, is also due to ad­dress Greek Par­lia­ment at 12.15 p.m. to­mor­row and to visit Athens Univer­sity, where he will be awarded an hon­orary doc­tor­ate. The Athens-Mace­do­nian News Agency said that par­lia­men­tary em­ploy­ees would not be al­lowed to move around the House while Hol­lande is in the build­ing as part of the strin­gent se­cu­rity mea­sures in place.
