Tight security in central Athens for leader’s visit
Athenians should expect road closures and tight security in central Athens from this afternoon until tomorrow afternoon due to French President Francois Hollande’s visit. Some 2,500 police officers will be on duty in the capital while the French leader meets with Greek officials, including President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Hollande, who will be staying in the city center tonight, is also due to address Greek Parliament at 12.15 p.m. tomorrow and to visit Athens University, where he will be awarded an honorary doctorate. The Athens-Macedonian News Agency said that parliamentary employees would not be allowed to move around the House while Hollande is in the building as part of the stringent security measures in place.
