Weather dam­age as­sessed as body of woman found

Author­i­ties over the week­end sought to as­sess the dam­age wreaked by heavy rain, as the body of a 43-year-old woman whose car was swept away in a flash flood on Thurs­day in Ka­matero, western Athens, was found in Freat­tyda, close to Pi­raeus.

Res­i­dents of Freat­tyda no­ti­fied author­i­ties af­ter spot­ting a woman’s body on the shore early Satur­day. The body was trans­ferred to the nearby Tzan­neio Hospi­tal, where the woman’s hus- band was called in to iden­tify her. The 43-year-old had been on her way to col­lect her two chil­dren from school on Thurs­day when her car was swept away.

In At­tica, but also in Ilia and Achaia in the Pelo­pon­nese, mean­while, ef­forts got un­der way over the week­end to re­pair the dam­age to farm­land wreaked by down­pours.

A ma­jor re­cov­ery ef­fort was also on­go­ing on the Sa­ronic is­land of Hy­dra af­ter flood­ing dam­aged roads and sea­side busi­nesses.
