Refugees keep com­ing de­spite bad weather

Refugees walk through the rain on the east­ern Aegean is­land of Lesvos wear­ing ther­mal blan­kets. Bad weather has not de­terred smug­gling boats from bring­ing scores of mi­grants and asu­lymn-seek­ers from neigh­bor­ing Turkey, fu­elling fears of a new wave of drown­ings. On Satur­day, more than 2,500 refugees ar­rived in Athens from Lesvos. De­spite an ini­tia­tive by mu­nic­i­pal author­i­ties in the cap­i­tal to host the mi­grants in tem­po­rary cen­ters most new ar­rivals pre­fer to camp out at the cap­i­tal’s squares be­fore con­tin­u­ing their jour­ney.
