Phar­macy own­er­ship still a sore point

Peo­ple pass a closed phar­macy dur­ing the sec­ond day of a se­ries of rolling 24-hour strikes by the phar­macy own­ers as­so­ci­a­tion in Thes­sa­loniki, north­ern Greece. Phar­ma­cists are strik­ing in re­sponse to a gov­ern­ment plan that will al­low non-phar­ma­cists to own ma­jor­ity stakes in phar­ma­cies. It is one of the three out­stand­ing is­sues in on­go­ing gov­ern­ment talks with cred­i­tors, the other two be­ing the pro­tec­tion of pri­mary res­i­dences from fore­clo­sure and the im­po­si­tion of value-added tax on pri­vate ed­u­ca­tion.
