Savvaidou facing felony charge
The former head of public revenues, Katerina Savvaidou, is to face felony charges, anticorruption prosecutors decided yesterday.
The two judicial officials, Ioannis Dragatsis and Angeliki Triantafyllou, deemed that the breach of faith charges against Savvaidou for her decision to ask for a 78-million-euro fine on an IT company from northern Greece to be reviewed should be treated as a felony rather than a misdemeanor.
Savvaidou denies any wrongdoing and insists the request for a review would not have led to the state suffering any damages. Nevertheless, the cabinet decided last week to fire her after she was charged in a second case involving the extension of a deadline for TV stations to pay an advertising levy. Savvaidou has not been replaced yet.
