National team banks on German coach for success, again
Eleven years after Otto Rehhagel led Greece’s soccer team to victory in the European Championships, Greek officials have again put their faith in a German coach. The Hellenic Football Federation unveiled Michael Skibbe as the new manager yesterday. Skibbe will be the fifth man to coach Greece in just over a year, following the departure of Fernando Santos last summer, which led to a period of instability that saw the national side fail to qualify for Euro 2016. Skibbe, 50, has coached clubs in Germany and Turkey, including Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray.
