Greece isparticipating in next week’s landmark global tourism event, the World Travel Market in London, harboring justified hopes for an even better performance from the British market next year than in 2015.

The Greek National Tourism Organization will, as usual have its own kiosk at the travel fair – which opens on Monday for four days – in the hope that it can further strengthen its position in the UK market.

The president of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Andreas Andreadis, says that the early signs from 2016 bookings from Britain are positive, although the sample is too small to deduce any safe conclusions at this stage.

He goes on to explain that the expected growth is partly thanks to the stronger British pound against the euro. There has been a decline in bookings from Britain to Turkey, a trend that bolsters the market shares of other destinations, such as Greece.

In 2015 Greece has achieved the highest growth rates in terms of British arrivals and expenditure compared to rival destinations: The latest available data show a 24.9 percent increase in arrivals to 1.8 million in the first eight months of the year, while expenditure rose 33.5 percent to 1.48 billion euros.
