Tsipras, Xi eye joint prospects

Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping de­scribed Greece as a “strategic part­ner” yes­ter­day fol­low­ing talks in Bei­jing with Greek Prime Min­is­ter Alexis Tsipras, who said Greek-Chi­nese ties were en­ter­ing a new phase.

“We are sure that Pi­raeus will cre­ate new prospects for broad­en­ing Greek-Chi­nese co­op­er­a­tion in trans­port, in­fra­struc­ture, telecoms and ship­ping,” the Chi­nese leader said, re­fer­ring to the con­ces­sion to Chi­nese lo­gis­tics gi­ant Cosco of a 67 per­cent stake in Pi­raeus Port Au­thor­ity. Xi said he was also in­ter­ested in co­op­er­a­tion in the tourism, cul­ture and sports sec­tors.

Tsipras, for his part, elab­o­rated on a se­ries of Greek pro­pos­als for Chi­nese in­vest­ments. Prime Min­is­ter Alexis Tsipras
