Businessman, defense officials to stand trial
A council of appeals court judges yesterday called for 17 people, including former senior defense officials, to stand trial over the acquisition of an electronic defense system from businessman Thomas Liakounakos.
The entrepreneur is among those who are to stand trial. He was remanded last year but has since been granted pretrial release on terms including his wearing a security bracelet. Former Defense Ministry official Antonis Kantas is among those facing criminal charges of breach of faith. Liakounakos’s firm SONAK got 35 million euros from the state but failed to deliver the defense system, prosecutors said.
