Four die, six rescued off Lesvos
Authorities recovered four bodies and rescued six people – five men and one woman – after a dinghy full of migrants overturned off the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, yesterday. A search and rescue operation was launched as the survivors – one girl, one boy, a man and a woman – were taken to a hospital in the island’s capital, Mytilene. A total 13 passengers were believed to be on the boat, which had set off from the Turkish town of Dikili, according to authorities. An estimated 2,900 migrants have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean since the start of the year.
