Po­lice ap­pear to have cracked two rings traf­fick­ing mi­grants across the Evros River on the Greek-Turk­ish bor­der, mak­ing a to­tal of 29 ar­rests, in­clud­ing one po­lice of­fi­cer, in the last cou­ple of days. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the mi­grants would pay the smug­glers 1,800 euros to get them across the Evros, trav­el­ing both to and from Greece. Po­lice said they con­ducted raids in the re­gions of Evros, Thes­sa­loniki and At­tica. Among those ar­rested were the lead­ers of the two gangs – a 57year-old Greek and a 27-year-old man from Ar­me­nia. One of the rings made prof­its of 320,000 euros by traf­fick­ing 400 mi­grants from last De­cem­ber to April while the other earned 360,000 euros traf­fick­ing 200 mi­grants since last Septem­ber un­til May.
