Hirings went up by record figure in June

-

Salaried employment increased by 33,608 jobs in June, helping the figures for the first half of the year to post a surplus, according to the Labor Ministry’s Ergani database.

Last month hirings declared to the ministry amounted to 239,573, while departures came to 205,965, including 79,260 voluntary departures. The situation was much better this year compared to the same month last year. The surplus recorded in 2015 amounted to just 8,590 jobs, so this year the improvement amounted to 25,018 more new jobs.

June 2016 was the fifth consecutive month with a surplus in the job flow in the private sector, while the surplus of 33,608 jobs constitutes the best June record since 2001, according to Ergani figures.

In the first six months of this year, hirings amounted to 1,063,590 and departures reached 828,926, of which 376,239 were voluntary. This has taken the surplus of the year’s first half to 234,664, which is also the best January-June record seen since 2001.

Notably, besides the online recordings of hirings and departures of salaried employees on Ergani, there is also a small number of companies that have registered their hirings and departures in handwriting at the Manpower Organization (OAED), either due to overdue submissions or to their inability to do so online.
