The ex­hi­bi­tion “Thomas Hope: Draw­ings of Ot­toman Is­tan­bul” runs at the Be­naki Mu­seum of Is­lamic Art in Athens un­til Septem­ber 25. Hope (1769-1831), the scion of a wealthy Bri­tish bank­ing fam­ily, vis­ited Greece and Turkey in the last quar­ter of the 18th cen­tury. The ex­hi­bi­tion fea­tures his ef­forts to por­tray Ot­toman Is­tan­bul through to­po­graphic views and fold­ing panora­mas as well as scenes from daily life rang­ing from cof­fee shops to mar­ket places, cos­tumes and palaces.
